Sheriff Robert F. Street began working as a dispatcher with the Martin County Sheriff’s Department in May of 1983, a week after he graduated from high school. He attended
During his 27 years working at the Sheriff’s Department, he has worked his way through the ranks. He started as a Communications Officer. He moved to Deputy Sheriff, Corporal, Sergeant, Major, Chief Deputy and now Sheriff, a position he has started in 2011. He has worked under the administration of three Sheriffs (Dave Qualkenbush, Paul E. Gee, and Tony Dant) and has gained valuable and vast amounts of knowledge from all of them.
Chief Deputy Anthony J. (Tony) Dant graduated from Loogootee High School. He attended Vincennes University for Law Enforcement.
Chief Deputy Dant has been with the Sheriff's Department since 1985. He started as a patrol deputy under Sheriff David G. Qualkenbush. In 1991, he was appointed as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Paul E. Gee for eight years, and four years under Sheriff David Qualkenbush. Dant was elected Sheriff of Martin County in 2003. On January 1, 2011, he was appointed to Chief Deputy by Sheriff Rob Street.
Chief Deputy Dant was a DARE Instructor for 10 years. He is also an active member of the Indiana Sheriff's Association.
